Free UFC fights are the way to end a great Sunday and lead into a huge ppv next weekend.
This is my first time I’m watching and reporting at the same time. Hopefully I can focus cause I tend to get distracted and into the fights, forgetting I’m supposed to be typing. We’ll see how it goes.
James Irvin and Alessio Sakara starting things off. Someone will be getting knocked out quickly. Well, I hope, cause the quicker the knock out the more fights we’ll get to see. I’d like to see John Howard’s fight and the Guida/Gugerty bout. Just cause its Crazy Clay.
This is Irvin’s first time at middleweight. Good to see he’s put a lot of weight back on after the weigh in cause man he was looking sickly slim yesterday.
Sakara is covered it tats. If you look closely on his right arm there’s some new ink that says “2nd Round Submission #1 Fan”. Maybe you won’t be able to see it but believe me, it’s there.
Exchanging strikes to start. Sakara looking to score with leg kicks
Both looking cautious early
Sakara having more success with his attack thus far
Nice left hook by Sakara. Then a right
Alessio changing levels nicely working the body and head
Something got Irvin in the eye. Can’t tell if it was a finger or a knuckle. Looks like a knuckle sandwich from the replay.
That’s a crappy way to end a fight. Damn, that looked like it hurt. I can say from experience getting a fist in the eye sucks. Well for Sakara a win is a win and that was definitely a solid punch to the eye.
Winner by TKO in Rd. 1 Alessio Sakara
Hey look its Shane Carwin. UFC 111 is going to be all kinda awesome. Wish I had went with my original plan of getting tickets but oh well. PPV HD will do just fine. Man I hope this Mir/Carwin fight goes fast. Watching those 2 go at it for 5 rounds would get very boring.
Up next its Cheick Kongo vs Paul Buentello. Both of these guys need a win or they may be looking for work elsewhere. Man Kongo needs to get himself together. He hasn’t improved much since coming to the UFC. He’s too damn big and vicious not to have more victories.
Nice to see they finally got a black ring girl. Mmmm she’s tasty.
Wow Buentello is moving around a lot for a big fella
Kongo looking for a takedown but Paul stuffed it thus far. Check that, down he goes.
Oh my! Buentello up then right back down powerfully by the large Frenchman
Buentello dislocated his pinky. 2 fights and 2 injuries. Oh wow. He’s fixed and pumped about it. Awesome
Paul’s got himself a burst of energy with his finger back in place
Kongo with combo then another big takedown
Round ends with Cheick getting in some ground in pound but nothing that does too much damage
After 1 its 10-9 Kongo
Kongo with a headkick attempt. Don’t see that much.
Someone must have pissed Cheick off because he’s looking like a killer
He rushes in with a combo along the cage and down goes Buentello.
Ground and pound from back control and its in danger of getting stopped
Some knees to the body by Kongo. Oops one to the face and that’s illegal. That’ll be a point deduction
Well that didn’t slow him down cause Kongo is right back to work. Rushing in again and another takedown.
More knees to the body. Those are painful.
Kongo is hitting him too much right now for me to even follow
Herb Dean is a great ref. Buentello tries the ol ‘put a hand down so I can’t get kneed in the head legally’ but Herb is onto that trick.
Kongo kicked his ass that round. To his credit Buentello is still in there taking the beating.
With the point deduction its 19-18 Kongo after 2
What a surprised, another takedown by Kongo to start the 3rd
I wasn’t expecting this fight to make it to the 3rd round
Cheick is pounding away with elbows to the thigh, then ribs. That’s it! Buentello taps. That man is going to be very soar tomorrow.
Good win for Kongo here over a guy he really had no business losing to. No disrespect to Buentello.
Time for another pre-recorded interview portion of the program. Georges doesn’t really say anything of note here aside from his typical pre-fight stuff.
Even though I’ve heard St. Pierre talk many times his accent still entertains me. Some of his classic lines are “I’m not impressed with your performance”, ”No one can handle my rhythm” and my sister’s favorite “I tore my abductor”.
Time for Gabriel Gonzaga vs Junior Dos Santos
NOGUIERA!!!!!! He’s in Dos Santos corner.
These are 2 scary looking Brazilians. My goodness
Well the first minute of this fight has seen very little action
Nice takedown by Gabe but Junior right back up
I feel like it’s only a matter of time til Dos Santos clocks Gonzaga with a right hand
OOOOOOO!!! Gonzaga tries to finish JDS like he did Cro Cop via head kick but Dos Santos blocks and comes back with one of his own
Junior winning the stand up battle so far. He connected with some nice shots to the head and body.
Mean left hook by Dos Santos drops Gabe. He pounces on him and is pounding away. Gonzaga is OUT
Winner in Rd. 1 by TKO Junior Dos Santos
He puts the exclamation point on things by head butting the octagon. Always a nice touch
Man, I hoping we get that awesome undercard knock out I heard about now. 40 minutes left in the broadcast and only a 3 round fight left. We’ll see
Hmm . . . Gonzaga seems fairly jovial for someone who was just knocked out as he posses for the camera
Hahaha. Junior with some nice broken English in his post fight interview but to summarize he says if you want knock out finishes he’s here to deliver. He’s ready for a title shot and really who am I to argue.
We get a look at some drunken milfs in the crowd. NICE. I’ve been to Denver and there’s certainly a fair amount of them. True story
Tremendous! Looks like were getting that great prelim knockout
Boston’s own John ‘Doomsday’ Howard vs Daniel Roberts
In the words of Rampage Jackson “there’s gonna be some black on black violence”
Howard wants to touch gloves but Roberts doesn’t
Quick takedown by Roberts
Back up then a kimura attempt into a swept. Very nicely down.
Now he’s grounding and pounding. I’m very surprised here. Good start by the new comer
Oh my! Huge slam by Howard. Looked like and old school Junk Yard Dog powerslam
SWEET JESUS!!!!! Doomsday dove in with a left hand and immediately ends Roberts night and brain activity for the time being. Vicious!!!
Then he goes Ozzie Smith and bust out the cart wheel into the back flip after winning.
Winner by KTFO in Rd. 1 John Doomsday Howard
Man Roberts is in bad shape. He still look completely out of it. Hopefully he’ll be ok
As always Howards tells us “here comes the doom”
Its time for the main event folks
Jon ‘Bones’ Jones vs Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera
Well documented by now, a few years ago Vera was the up and comer who came in a took the UFC by storm. That was then, now Jon Jones is that new prospect that has everyone’s attention
Both of these guys are coming in looking focused. Vera looks ready to kill and Jones looks slightly psychotic
Here we go. I’m excited
Immediate judo trip brings Vera to the ground.
The Truth just launched Jones off him like a catapult. Strong legs
Another good takedown by Bones. He’ll have to be careful here in Vera’s guard cause he’s got very good jits
Brandon just landed a upkick to the mouth. That’s illegal with a knee down
After the stoppage back to action. Bones isn’t doing much on top.
Check that! That’s a wrap!!!! Left elbow to the side of Vera’s face then some ground and pound. Looks like The Truth got his eye socket broken. Someone is taking a trip to the hospital
TKO win in Rd 1 for ‘Bones’ Jones
Great win by Jones here against a game opponent. Hmm I wonder who they’ll put him in with next.
They just played a replay of the elbow. Vera could feel it and boy could we hear it. That was a thud
