Sabres host the Canadiens Tonight 7:30pm

One key term describes the entirety of Sabre fandom heading into tonight’s home game vs. Les Habitants….
Paranoid Schizophrenia :
A mental disorder characterized by abnormalities in the perception or expression of reality. It most commonly manifests as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking with significant social or occupational dysfunction.
Funny how I could not have defined a Buffalo Sabres fan any more appropriately for this season.
Many people outside of Buffalo think living there must require a kind of mental disorder.
Toronto Maple Leaf fans love telling Sabres fans how there team’s chances of winning the Stanley Cup are devoid of reality.
Let’s not go over the various auditory hallucinations over the Sabres history (no goal, phantom goal), which parallels the paranoia (such as the injuries to all the defensemen and especially the staph infection Jay Mckee had during 05-06) most Sabres fan have inherent in their head to being a fan of the team.
Sometimes the fans mumble to themselves, and it’s always easy to hear the grumblings, like why is Larry Quinn ever allowed in the building and what is Darcy doing, napping again when trade proposals or free agency pop up.
Yes, being a Buffalo Sabres fan certainly can be like a social dysfunction.
Take the recent road trip for example.
Excellent disastrous starts in Detroit and Atlanta buried the team in holes much to cavernous to climb out of, despite the team playing very well for the majority of the game after the absent minded beginning.
That turned the fans back into the angry, bitter, this team stinks, trade everybody, rats off the titanic mode that they had ensconced themselves into during the month long abomination the team had.
But now, a mere 3 games later, while not giddy, the Sabres fans are pleasantly surprised.
Sandwiched around a tough, grind it out win against the Panthers in Florida were two annihilation style first periods against Tampa and the Hurricanes.
Suddenly guys like Hecht and Pominville are playing like their butts are on fire and scoring at will. They have what seems to be 2 locked in lines with Kennedy-Roy-Vanek and Hecht-Connolly-Pominville.
Moving Tim Kennedy to his natural position, the wing, has really turned his season around from the outhouse to the penthouse. That was a change long past due. Now if they would only move Roy to the wing (a pet peeve).
Heading into tonight’s home game against Montreal, and Friday’s home game vs. Ottawa, you can certainly understand Sabres fans schizophrenia.
They are wondering, is this a quality team that can play solid defense backed up by an elite goaltender and anonymous scoring that no team can key on, or are they the team that was hideous for the better part of a month and a half?
Can they do serious damage in the playoffs or will they be roadkill?
Which was the hallucination : these past 3 games or the first 2 road games where they started like their legs were in quicksand?
