As I had mentioned in my previous blog, I believe that over the final ten games the Calgary Flames would need to get a minimum of 15 points in order to qualify for the post season. Last night they made a step in the right direction by beating the Anaheim Ducks by a score of 3-1 last night at the Saddledome.
The key players for the Flames stepped up last night, getting goals from Nigel Dawes, Rene Bourque, and Niklas Hagman. Also Jay Bouwmeester stepped up with a big game chipping in two assists. Miikka Kiprusoff had just another ho hum Miikkaesque start turning aside 22 of the 23 shots Anaheim fired at him.
And gasp! The Flames actually got some help on the scoreboard for the first time in three days, with the Nashville Predators losing, they suddenly join Detroit and Colorado and teams the Flames could catch to sneak into the playoffs.
Next up for the Flames is a trip to Long Island to take on the New York Islanders on Thursday night. It’s a game they should win and absolutely need to win to keep pace.
No new news on Daymond Langkow other than it does not appear that his injury will not be serious in a long term sense, which is great news. There is no time table on his return but I would suspect that he will be back in the lineup as soon as he can convince the doctors that he is good to go.
Have a good one!
