Although being a No.1 seed in the mayhem that is March Madness, everyone predicted that Duke would be the first of the number one’s to go home.
Instead, the Blue Devils are on their way to Indianapolis, silencing all the critics that didn’t believe in them, after a 78-71 victory over Baylor Sunday night to win the South Regional Final.
After being down 35-32 at the half, Duke came back out with a focused game plan and instead of acting timid, “manned-up” and starting driving to the hole.
The emotionally filled Baylor team then caught some of their best players in foul trouble and it eventually hurt them late in the game.
Duke then went on a 12-1 run after trailing 61-60 with four minutes remaining and never looked back.
Nolan Smith had a star-studded performance with a career-high 29 points, while point guard Jon Scheyer added 20 points of his own, shooting five three-pointers.
Duke are now back in the final four after a six-year hiatus and are also the lone No. 1 seed in the big showdown.
The hate still lives on by all the Duke non-admirers but sometimes you just have to put your feelings aside and give credit when it’s due.
