Clawing and Scratching

The Return of Cam Ward was a huge plus for the Hurricanes last night as they rallied around their goaltender and walked out of Atlanta with a 4-1 victory.
The Boychuk-Staal experiment came to an end last night, with Boychuk moving back down to the 4th line for the time being. I would expect him to find his way back up into the top 6 as early as next year.
As unfortunate as it was for Boychuk, it was good news for the team. The top line began producing again, something that had been lacking from the Canes previous two contests.
So where does this leave us?
The Hurricanes currently sit in 11th with 73 points. 7 back of Boston for the final playoff spot. The Hurricanes can only get a maximum of 85 points over the rest of the season, which means that if Boston manages 2 more wins this season, and the Hurricanes lose a single game, they’re done. Obviously the task is extremely unlikely, though not impossible.
But as all Canes fans know, with Cam Ward back between the pipes and looking sharp, anything is possible….
Until next time Caniacs.
