So my topic for today is can they take the division, hard to believe this is even possible as at some points during the season the Wings did not even look like they would make an appearance in the post season for the first time in nearly 2 decades, but it is possible now. They sit 3rd in the Central Division, 1 point behind the Preds and 6 points behind the leading Blackhawks.
Can they do it? i say yes they can after beating Columbus 3-2 on Thursday now with 7 wins in a row, and still with a game against Chicago on the last night of the season. Chicago’s last 6 games are more difficult then the Wings so theres a good chance still that the Wings could make a higher finish then expected.
The Wings are 13-3 since the Olympic Break, with all but 2 of those games with 3 goals or more, while the Blackhawks are 6-9 in the same span, although the Blackhawks are leading the division, could this mean an early exit for them as this late season spell has them against the wall. As the Blackhawks fall the Wings are starting to look like the Wings of old that can make the playoffs and win the Stanley Cup.
As for tonight the Balckhawks vs Devils and the Avalanche vs Flames are the 2 important games for the Wings fans although neither game will mean anything to Detroit at the moment it could still cause some standing juggling heading into the final games and the playoffs. Detroit has 2 more games against Columbus and 1 against Nashville, Philadelphia and of course Chicago, make no mistake however Detroit does not take Columbus lightly as the last 10 meetings are 6-2-2 in favour of Columbus. While Chicago has New Jersey, Calgary, Dallas, St. Louis, Colorado, and Detroit. Chicago will have more traveling and more of the teams that will be facing them could still make a push in the end to make the playoffs. It should be a good 9 days left in the regular NHL season.
Jimmy Howard is still in the spotlight in Detroit winning the NHL’s Rookie of the Month, and 2nd Star of the Month and also he has won the team award of Player of Month which was given by the coaching staff of the Wings he also has won that award earlier in the year in November, Howard has a large claim to take home some hardware this year.
