The Ottawa Senators won in dramatic fashion last night notching a 4-3 shootout win over the Carolina Hurricanes while officially clinching a playoff spot while extending their win streak to six games. It’s the 12th in the last 13 years that the Sens will play in the post-season.
Sens defensemen Erik Karlsson scored two goals, the second one with 8 seconds remaining to tie it up. His first goal of the game was a beauty after Jason Spezza fed him in the slot for a wide open opportunity to give the Sens a 2-1 lead. Karlsson was at his best last night jumping into the play and making things happen. His defense partner Andy Sutton has really allowed Karlsson to excel as he makes up for many of his mistakes. Sutton had three more shots on goal and three blocked shots. The Sens need to resign Sutton, he is a horse on the backend and has really fit in since being acquired at the deadline.
Peter Regin had a monster game as he continues his fine play alongside Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson. Regin has two assists and was a plus three, as well as registering four shots on goal, two hits, two blocked shots and two takeaways. Truly a great night for the native of Denmark.
Sorry for the late blog post as I usually get them up right after the game, going to enjoy the family on this long weekend. I will be sure to get a postgame after the Sens game in Long Island at 2pm tomorrow.
