The Castle Lights Are Growing Dim…

Can anyone else hear Vincent Price getting ready to read the Flames into the sweet goodnight of missing the playoffs? Combining the Flames 4-1 loss to the Black Hawks, along with the Avalanche beating the Sharks 5-4 in OT have put the Flames on the brink of elimination.

The Flames actually came out and played a pretty good game against the Hawks, but after dominating most of the first period of play the Hawks were up 2-0 on a bit if a lucky goal first with a good kick off the end boards. The in the final minute Miikka Kiprusoff gave up a horrible rebound and the Hawks made no mistake.

The second period was a pretty slow period until Patrick Kane fired a wrist shot over Miikka’s blocker to make it 3-0. It was a very good shot but that has to be a save. Ian White came charging back for the Flames and scored on a blocker side wrister to make it 3-1. Another good wrist show and the only mistake that Antti Niemi made all afternoon.

The Flames were all over Chicago in the third period but Niemi was excellent, as he was all game. After pressing and pressing the Hawks finally turned it over and Dustin Byfuglien beat Miikka with a wrister glove side to put the game to bed 4-1.

Overall the Flames really took it to the Hawks for a lot of the game but Niemi was great for Chicago and The Black Hawks buried their scoring chances while the Flames just couldn’t finish plays to save their lives. The good news is that for the first time in two years the Flames actually looked like they deserved to be on the same ice as the Hawks.

Point blank the Flames are 2 back of the Avalanche, and will have to win all three of their remaining games and get some help in where Colorado can not collect more than 3 points over their remaining four games. If that happens the Flames get in. Otherwise Vincent Price blows out the candle.

Have a good one!
