Eddie Jordan Calls Out Players After Loss to Detroit

Posted By Mike Santa Barbara On Apr 7 2010 @ 1:38 am In Philadelphia 76ers | No Comments

After Tuesday nights double-digit loss to the Pistons, Eddie Jordan did something he hasn’t done all season long. He named names. Calling out both Elton Brand and Samuel Dalembert for their efforts Tuesday night.

Reactions from both players were different, but both had the same underlying sarcasm. Jordan stated that he had given the players a day off and expressed disappointment with the effort of said players. Brand’s response was snappy ” We didn’t have shoot-around, but we did practice, some guys opted to not show up to practice, but I was there.” Dalembert at first seemed hesitant to snap back at Jordan stating ” I’ve been playing that way the whole year.” Then went onto to say ” Now it’s all of sudden a problem.”

Andre Iguodala, who has taken on a larger role as leader, stated he’d rather keep those kinds of things in house. As if it was a giant secret, the locker room is split from coach Eddie Jordan. He had lost them ages ago, though, this seems to be the first “public” evidence of it.

Jordan was being a good soldier and trying to win games, playing everything out in a very classy manner. Now it seems as if Jordan is taking out his certain fate on his players. Which only backs up the idea that Jordan was simply not the right man for the job. He took over basically the same team that gave the eventual Eastern Conference champs perhaps their toughest test of last years playoffs before the Finals, and turned them into a cellar dwelling, lottery hopeful team. In one season no less. Although the players are not without blame, the majority of it rest squarely on the obviously unprepared shoulders of Eddie Jordan.

With the Sixers cap situation being what it is, most likely the players you see wearing red and blue now, will be wearing the same come next season. And you can count on them performing better, along with a new head coach and a new vision. Instead of infighting, they’ve decided to stick together, and it’s obvious by the reactions of the players after Tuesday’s defeat. They may have lost by 21 but it’s looking more and more like lack of effort because of strong dislike for their head coach, not for each other. Bonding like this can only fuel the fire to prove Jordan and their other detractors wrong next season.

Meeks With His First REAL Action

Playing just under 29 Minutes, Jodie Meeks finally got some real playing time Tuesday night. He didn’t disappoint, going 8-11 from the floor for 19 points.
