Padres Turn The Tables

After a disappointing 6-3 loss to the Diamondbacks on Opening Day, the Padres managed to do the mirror reverse trick and beat the Diamondbacks 6-3.
Pitcher Chris Young threw a stellar game, allowing only one hit in six innings. It was his first start since shoulder surgery last year. Young must have looked all of his six feet and ten inches as the Diamondbacks seemed intimidated by the power and control of Young’s pitches.
The Padres bats boomed with Everth Cabrera racking up ribbies at nearly every at bat. His first came on a fastball from former Detroit Tiger pitcher Edwin Jackson, which Cabrera laced to left center for a two-run double. In the sixth, he smacked a triple to right center for two more runs.
The big hits were booming for the Padres, with home runs from Adrian Gonzalez and Will Venable.
Some early projections were betting against the Padres having a great season, but if the offense holds up, and the rest of the team’s pitchers bring the intensity and focus that Chris Young put on abundant display last night, the Padres may just prove a lot of their skeptics wrong.
The Padres continue tonight with another game against the Diamondbacks.
