Flyers Can Clinch Playoff Berth Tonight; Carter Expected to Play

Boy, those guys in charge of the NHL schedule really know what their doing don’t they? The Flyers and Rangers have a scheduled Home-and-Home to finish out their season. And it just so happens that the Rangers are chasing the Flyers, while the Flyers are trying to fend the Blue-shirts off for one of the final playoff spots in the East.

The job is much tougher for the Rangers, who need to win both games against the Fly guys, in regulation. The Flyers only need a point to clinch a playoff spot, so even a overtime or shootout loss will do.

The first game of the Home-and-Home is Tonight at Madison Square Garden. You better believe the Rangers will come out playing hard in front of their home crowd, especially knowing what’s at stake. The Flyers will have to weather the storm early, and play with equal desperation. They can ill-afford a let down in this game, sure if they lose they’ll have one final game at home to try and wrap it up. Though, giving the Rangers any hope or momentum could doom the Flyers season.

Jeff Carter Expected to Play

After breaking his foot on March 21st, it appears that Jeff Carter is ready to return. He practiced on Thursday without problems, and skated briefly on Friday. Some say his brief skate was due to Carter feeling some discomfort. Though, it could just be a bit of a smoke screen job by the Orange and Black. A few days ago it was reported that Ville Leino would be scratched Friday for one of the Flyers tough guys, like Riley Cote. The same move was made by Peter Laviolette the last time the Flyers met the Rangers and it backfired. Making the same move for such and important game doesn’t seem likely, more likely, the Flyers would scratch Leino for Carter. Also, Carter stated that he was aware he would feel discomfort, and it was something he was going to have to learn to deal with if he wanted to contribute.  So, all signs point for a return of the Flyers leading scorer.
