Marlins pen dodge bullets with comebacks to take 2 of 3 from Dodgers

Say what you want about the 2010 Florida Marlins, but one thing that this bunch can never be called is boring. Sunday’s 6-5 win over the Dodgers was the clubs second consecutive come from behind victory and gave the team a 4-2 record after the season opening week.
After dropping the home opener on Friday night to the Dodgers 7-3, the Marlins took the second game in stunning fashion when Jorge Cantu plated Chris Coghlan with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th. These heroics concluded a 3 run Florida rally and came after another Marlin meltdown in the bullpen that saw Dan Meyer squander a 4-3 lead in the 8th by yielding a 2 run pinch single followed by a solo homer from Matt Kemp off of Jose Veras in the 9th. The team was so pumped and overjoyed they stormed the dugout to congratulate Cantu and Coghlan, leaving last years rookie of the year a little shaken up after receiving a few shots to the head. Its great to see the players inspired and thriving on emotion, but lets not lose perspective fellas, its only game 5 not game 5 of the World Series.
The rubber match of the series also saw the Marlins overcome a 4-3 deficit in the 7th inning, when Jorge Cantu ripped a double to left field bringing home 2 runs and put the Marlins ahead for good. Cantu had drove home 3 earlier in the game with a moon shot over the left field wall of of knuckle baller Charlie Haeger.
Although Florida sits alone in 2nd place in the NL East with a 4-2 record, they obviously have issues in the bullpen as many teams seem to these days. Former Yankee/Indian Jose Veras has a 14.73 ERA so far giving up 6 runs in 3.2 innings, righty Tim Wood has a 11.57 ERA over his first 3 outings and southpaw Reynel Pinto (6.75 ERA) has been shaky as well. Obviously it is still very early and these numbers can turn around just as easily as they rise, but the pitching staff is the key to Florida getting over the hump and excelling to the next level in a tough NL East.
