Wait, this is still spring training, right? This week doesn’t count.
Honestly, I really haven’t seen much of the Mets at all — this weekend was a perfect example, I was down in Pennsylvania with my girlfriend and didn’t get to see either of the two crushing defeats that darkened the weekend of countless other fans.
Instead I had the funny and bizarre experience of going to a bar (not a sports bar mind you, just a regular bar) at 11 PM or so on a Friday night and you would think it was a pep rally for the Phillies. Just a random assortment of hats and either of the $12.95 shirts from Target for 2008 World Champions, or 2009 World Series Losers, oh, I’m sorry NL Champions. Made me want to shout out “Keith Hernandez!” at the top of my lungs.
(I’m sorry for venting and of course I realize the irony of taunting the Phills on behalf of my even-more-hated Yankees. What can I say its been a rough year so far.)
One other thought. Willie Harris. That guy keeps killing us every time I look. I know he’s won several games for the Nationals with his defense. And I remember being at the game this one Saturday at Shea where he lept over the wall for a home run thwarting catch not once but twice; the second time a “walkoff catch” snuffing out what would have been a walkoff 3-run Delgado homer. And so it goes in Metland. Lookin’ for somethin’ to give us a little more positive to talk about.
