21 of ProSportsBlogging’s NHL Bloggers and 1 person who knows absolutely nothing about the NHL (Robin, my mother) have weighed in with their first round predictions on the eve of the NHL Playoffs.
In the East; 21 of 22 predicted that the Capitals will beat the Canadiens, with the exception of a bold upset pick by Robin (my mother). Only 2 people (Chris Rydburg, Kevin Lee) had the Sens winning their series against Pittsburgh, the reigning champs. 18 bloggers are running with the Devils, and expecting them to eliminate the Flyers and in the closest series, 15 have chosen Buffalo over Boston, while 7 have Boston over Buffalo.
In the West; only Trent Kondo and Mark Bates were confident enough to predict another San Jose collapse, this time at the hands of Colorado. In the Hawks-Preds series, Chicago had an overwhelming 19 selections of the 22 people surveyed. Even though Detroit is an underdog, 16 people predict that the Wings will make it out of the first round, only 5 picked the Coyotes and 1 writer (Matt Shott) abstained due to his allegiance to both teams. In the closest series, the Vancouver Canucks (12 selections) edged out the LA Kings (10 selections).

Written by Corey Krakower
I am the Director of NHL Content & Habs writer for ProSportsBlogging.com; I have spent 8 seasons behind the bench as a minor hockey coach; and I am the future GM of the Montreal Canadiens (according to my mom). I spend my days managing the Harrow Sports brand in my hometown of Montreal and I moonlight as a Hockey Advisor for Pi Athlete Management. Most importantly, I'll throw anyone under the bus for a laugh.

Nice job on this Corey!
Eric Cooney Apr 14 20101:50 am
I love how only Corey’s mom chose Montreal. Not even Corey!
Dan Rakusan Apr 14 20101:53 am
She’ll make us all look like idiots if she’s the only one who is right! Then again, I don’t need any help making myself look like an idiot when picking playoff brackets…lol
Mike De Petrillo Apr 14 20109:08 am
This should be interesting – I am looking forward to watching VAN v. LA In the west and PHI v. NJD in the east first round.

Where is the love or Nashvile?
Shane Hoopfer Apr 14 201012:27 pm
Like I said in the radio show I think Nashville is a tough barn for road teams. However the Preds are running into a buzz saw when it comes to the Hawks.
Ryan Cleaver Apr 14 201011:42 am
This guy’s mom on the Tony Kornheiser Show picked George Mason to win it all when they made the Final Four a few years back. It became a national story. Hey- why not?
Shane Hoopfer Apr 27 201012:29 am
I’d now like to point out we are one game away from Corey’s mom is one game away from pulling off the pick of the year.
Chris Rydburg Apr 27 20108:54 am
I had hoped to get some luck bounces to jump out to an early lead… ooops
Jim Mulligan Apr 27 201010:44 am
Hey Cory. What happened to my picks?
On another note, it’s good to see this blog hass been up since 14 APR and I’m just noticing it now. Yes, I deserve whatever jabs that come my way
Shane Hoopfer Apr 27 201011:56 am
Well if you insist Jim you slacker
Shane Hoopfer Apr 28 201010:05 pm
As one of the first round co leaders I feel it’s my duty to applaud Chris for his whopping 1 for 8 in the first round
And I should poke some fun at my broadcast partner Dan for his stellar 3/8 LOL
That was a gong show of a first round. Second round isn’t shaping up much better.
