Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez just got a brand new toy to play with…after the first four games of the season, that is.
The Jets acquired wide receiver Santonio Holmes from Pittsburgh this week in exchange for only a fifth round pick.
Holmes, a former Super Bowl hero, has been dealing with an offseason drama as he is fighting allegations that he assaulted a woman. He also violated the league’s drug policy and will be suspended for the first quarter of the season. The Steelers finally tired of Holmes’ delinquency act and let him go for very little.
He comes aboard the Jets as their most talented receiver. He posted a career- high 78 receptions last season and should quickly become one of Sanchez’s most trusted targets. However, his production should be somewhat less than that this season due to the run-first nature of the Jets offense.
Still, he does nothing but help Gang Green’s chances of reaching the AFC Title game again…and, this time, possibly winning it.
