I know that isn’t much of a shock to most pessimists but I was not one of them. Until last night!
As I sat on the lazyboy getting ready to enjoy another fine evening of hockey, I flipped on CBC to find something that surprised me. The Montreal and Washington series wasn’t on the CBC! It was over on TSN. Now that struck me as odd as I am pretty sure that the CBC has dibs on series’ involving Canadian teams, and I honestly can’t remember this ever happening before where a Canadian team was not on the CBC.
Alright no worries. I enjoy listening to the TSN crew call a game. But as I’m watching the national anthems in Buffalo it again struck me as odd. When did Boston or Buffalo get annexed by Canada? I mean it must have happened when I was out shopping before the games got started since the Canadian national anthem was being played in Buffalo without a Canadian team participating.
If that wasn’t odd enough, I’m pretty damn sure more people were singing the Canadian anthem in the stands!!! So clearly the annexation of upper New York had happened months or years ago and I just missed it, or CNN didn’t bother reporting on it.
Now the main point of all this is if half the stands in Buffalo are being filled by Canadians the NHL can’t move a team close to Buffalo as it would clearly cripple the Sabres. So unless Buffalo moves to Hamilton, it isn’t happening. So, if you’re a Canadian and you want new teams up north, your best bets are Winnipeg and Quebec City.
Since we have taken Buffalo I figure we may as well take Alaska next. Would anyone notice?
Canada. The big friendly country that one day just snapped!
Have a good one!
