Ok i was wrong! Phoenix went into Detroit on Sunday and made a bold impact statement, They are NOT going away that easily.
20,066 packed the Joe in Detroit to see the Wings take a lead on this series it was loud it was crazy and octopus were being thrown, but just 29 seconds into the game Lepisto of Phoenix took the crowd out of it with a quick sudden goal on Jimmy Howard. Filpulla(from Stuart and Zetterberg) would net his 3rd on the power play at 14:42 of the first to tie it up. The first period was not without chances and 3 penalties combined by both teams.
The second period again was quiet with only 2 penalties however Wojtek Wolski of Phoenix would net his 3rd at 19:28 of the 2nd taking the crowd out of the game once again. This would be the begging of the end for Detroit as a lack effort period then spelled the end in Detroit for this night Prucha and Vrbata would get 2 more goals for Phoenix in the 3rd and Johan Franzen would also net one for Detroit but it was not to be on this night.
Many questions now surround this series. Will Phoenix upset Detroit (although Phoenix is the higher seed many would consider it an upset), Will Howard get the boot? Can Detroit tie it? or will they collapse. Detroit has given up early victories in previous playoffs but over the last couple years as we all know they made it to finals. Looking ahead at game #4 Detroit is now in a must win as going down 3-1 and heading back into enemy territory is NOT a good situation for Detroit to be in, however should Detroit tie it look for the series to go 7 and a final showdown in the desert for game #7. I know so far my predictions have not been very good, but I have faith in my Wings!
