11:31ET – That’ll do it. Nashville takes care of business at home in Game 3, take a 2-1 series lead. The next game in this series comes on Thursday at 8:30ET. Thanks to everybody who tuned in and to all of you who contributed. If the Hawks survive long enough, maybe I’ll do another one of these in a later round.
11:19ET – He scores it. Looking pretty good for the Preds now.
11:18ET – Penalty Shot for Erat
11:12ET – Nashville players blocking everything. Which is fortunate for them because suddenly the Hawks look alive.
11:08ET – Byfuglien has moved to wing, presumably to stand in Rinne’s face.
11:03ET – Quenneville has switched up his lines. Kane and Toews back together, with Kris Versteeg.
11:00ET – No sense of urgency from the Blackhawks. All that momentum from the end of the period is totally gone.
10:55ET – Hawks can’t get out of their own zone. If they give up another, they can’t make it back.
10:54ET – Final 20 minutes. Here we go.
AROUND THE LEAGUE UPDATE: Sharks lead 1-0 after one period in Colorado.
10:38ET – Nashville leads 3-1 after two. I felt like the Hawks regained a little bit of momentum toward the end of the period, but this is all Nashville for the moment. Don’t expect the Hawks to pack it in though, I would look for Rinne to face a lot of shots in the third. There might also be some fireworks if the game gets out of reach. Stay tuned for a good third period.
10:36ET – I like the shooting. This is how the Hawks need to play if they’re going to catch up.
10:32ET – Versteeg elects to dance instead of shoot the puck, resulting in a giveaway. He’s been one of the best Hawks out there, but you need to be smarter than that. Take the simple play and just shoot.
10:28ET – Two biggest hits I’ve ever seen Keith throw.
10:26ET – Hawks getting too fancy again, this could get out of hand if they keep it up.
10:20ET – That’s trouble. Hossa’s leg puts the Hawks down 2. With the way Nashville plays, 2 goals is a tough obstacle to overcome. This one might well be over already.
10:15ET – Patrick Kane is just everywhere. I think the mullet gives him spider sense.
10:10ET – Tremendous lack of poise from both teams. Dumb penalties all around.
10:07ET – Yet another ex-Hawk punishes them. Great pass by Sullivan.
10:05ET – Awful giveaway. Niemi comes up big again.
10:01ET – Second period underway.
9:44ET – That’s one period in the books. Nashville looked the stronger team early, but back to back penalties have swung the momentum the other way. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out stronger in the 2nd period. The Hawks will start with a handful of seconds 5 on 4. Expect the lines to stay status quo because neither team seems to have an advantage at the moment.
9:40ET – That was fast. 1-1. Kopecky with a nice finish.
9:39ET – Big power play here. A chance regain some of the momentum lost by undisciplined play.
9:36ET – Niemi has been nothing short of outstanding tonight. His team needs to bail him out of this.
9:31ET – Byfuglien falls asleep in front and Ward puts away a rebound. Big first goal for the Preds, the first time this series they’re opened the scoring.
AROUND THE LEAGUE UPDATE: Detroit has beaten Phoenix to even that series at 2-2. If the Hawks survive, one of those two teams would be among their potential next round opponents.
9:28ET – Big Save by Niemi on Legwand. Hawks have had a lot of shorthanded chances, but they can’t forget that their priority on the PK is to prevent goals.
9:22ET – Rinne looks a little shaky handling the puck tonight. We’ll see if it comes back to bite him.
9:20ET – Disaster averted by Rinne, who almost bounces the puck off his back after a poor clearance, but covers up just in time. Not a good way to start a power play.
9:19ET – Smashville living up to its name. The Preds game plan appears to be pound the Hawks into submission.
9:16ET – A few beautiful moves by Kris Versteeg, but Rinne shuts the door. Good try, but still 0-0.
9:11ET – Bad Hawks change leads to a flurry of Nashville chances. Gotta be smarter than that.
9:09ET – Preds go with Erat, Arnott, Wilson, with Suter and Weber
9:01ET – Here we go! The announced Blackhawks starters: Niemi in goal, Keith and Hjalmarsson on defense, and Toews, Hossa, and Ladd up front.
8:34ET – Patric Hornqvist is not warming up with the Predators. Looks like they’ll have to manage without him.
Join me in this space starting at 8:45ET as we build up to the start of the game. I’ll be providing scoring updates and commentary throughout. You can also post any questions you have in the comments section and I’ll get to as many of them as possible during the game. It looks like it’s going to be a spirited contest tonight, so I’ll see you back here later.
