As the Nasvhille Predators gear up for another round with the Chicago Blackhawks tonight, one has to be nervous for the boys in black and blue. Their lead offensive weapon, “Swedish Super Viking” Patric Hornqvist did not participate in todays practice and it is unlikely he will be healthy enough to participate in the rest of the series. This is an absolutely crippling blow for the blue collared Predators team that relies heavily on Hornqvist scoring touch.
The Predators will need certain players who make over 3M a year to step up the rest of the series and score a few goals because Patric can’t do it for them. Jason Arnott, David Legwand, Martin Erat, and Steve Sullivan, I am looking at you guys.
Anyways, here is the summary from Sunday night.
17:26 Hawks dominating right now. Spreading the defense thin right now.
16:00 I wish Hornqvist was in. Just heard he was scratched. I hope he didn’t really hurt himself because the predators are going to need his scoring touch in order to beat the Blackhawks. Let’s pray he returns in game 3.
13:00 Rinne had some HUGE saves on the Hawks power play on Hossa and Sharp.
12:40 I really would rather have Legwand on the wing instead of Goc. Legwand’s offensive game seems to open up more when he is on the wing.
12:06 Preds on the power play after a good interference call.
11:50 Why is it when the Predators are on the PP they always seem to give the other teams the better scoring chances? We need a new power play coach because an almost last place PP% year after year is unacceptable.
8:45 Another post hit. That is like ten in two games. The Predators are really in need of some energy there is absolutely no energy by this team.
8:06 Kevin Klein is absolutely awful. He needs to be benched for the rest of the series. Klein turns the puck over, basically passed it to the Blackhawks, and it turns into a scoring chance for the Hawks. Luckily, Rinne covered quickly and the officials blew the whistle dead before Patrick Sharp could come in to finish the job.
5:00 Nashville needs to shoot faster on the point shots. Also, the Predators are not hitting anyone. That isn’t going to cut it.
3:33 Absolutely a Chinese fire drill right now on end to end hockey. This style of play favors the Hawks
2:00 Arnott can’t turn the puck over like that.
:20 Troy Brouwer would not stop cross checking Joel Ward before a face off. There wasn’t a penalty called, but that was absolutely unnecessary and ridiculous.
End of 1
17:00 The Predators are absolutely swarming the Blackhawk net, led by Dustin Boyd and Colin Wilson. These boys literally came out of the break on fire. Boyd had two great shots (one went wide) but couldn’t put it in past Neiimi.
16:00 asdmfoamwg awrgwrgg. Power Play chance after power play chance for the Preds but still no goal. They are absolutely dreadful on the power play.
11:00 Hawks score on a PP. A great set up by Patrick Kane and Toews that allowed Bolland to have an easy backhand goal.
9:35 Penalty on Smithson for tripping. This going to be the turning point for this game. If the Predators kill this penalty, they will have momentum. If they don’t I think the Predators are toast.
7:53 Pekka Rinne saved the game with an across the crease save on Marian Hossa. My my my what an amazing save.
1:00 Period finishes with a couple of chances here and there, but Pekka Rinne is the reason this game is even close. I’ve seen no evidence that would even suggest the Predators will score this game. Patric Hornqvist is missed… and missed in the worst way.
15:42 I don’t know how to emphasize this anymore than I have all season: Klein and Hamhuis are an awful pairing. Dan Hamhuis loses a battle against Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane, leaving Kevin Klein alone against the two talented Chicago forwards. A frozen Klein watches helplessly as a Kane buries the shot. The Blackhawks now lead by two.
10:43 Just realized this pairing has been on the ice for all of the goals the Predator’s have given up this series. Why does this not surprise me? Excuse me while I puke.
:28 The Preds once again blow another powerplay, game over.
This game was ugly if you were a Predators fan. I would scold and go into detail, but I am tired of calling out the same players and coaching decisions over and over again. I am tired of rehashing that Klein and Hamhuis are a bad pairing. I am tired of calling out veterans who are paid millions to score but seem to not care enough to go to the hard areas.
Prove me wrong boys. Just win.
