The Yankees are on their West Coast jaunt facing the surprising A’s, before taking on the Angels once again. After mowing down Texas (they’re just BAD as my mom would say), little seems to stand in the way of the Bombers. Javier Vazquez even won Tuesday night to open the road trip!
In the rest of the AL East, the Rays have shown that they can pull off Columbia Blue uniforms by sweeping the less fashion forward Red Sox. Wow!
Currently in the basement are the woeful O’s — Oh-No’s if you’re an Orioles fan — cushioning the Red Sox from last place.
The Blue Jays are holding onto the middle of the pack, but unfortunately for Toronto, third place doesn’t get you any closer to the post-season than last!
What do you think? Are the Yankees just unstoppable this year or are they riding a wave of lots of off-days and little substantial competition thus far?
I just wanted to end with a special mention of a Yankees employee who left this world far too soon. Harvey Winston started out in the mailroom and worked his way up in the organization during a career that spanned three decades. Anyone who knew him always saw him impeccably dressed with a huge, ear-to-ear smile. This past Sunday, the Yankees paid tribute to him in a special ceremony and presented his World Series ring to his family. I’m glad that the Yankees recognized the contributions of a member of the organization who worked behind the scenes, off the field. Harvey will be missed.
