Where do you start? What a game, what a finish! The Ottawa Senators not only defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins in triple overtime tonight 4-3, but they beat the officials too. Once again, the officials were sucked in by the Pens diving and it almost cost the Sens the game. Thankfully, it didn’t!
Pascal Leclaire stopped 56 of 59 shots and was by far the first star of this game. He challenged the Pens shooters all night. I can’t begin to count how many times he would make a big save outside the blue paint. The Sens defense tightened up at the right time after regulation. Matt Carkner was the 3OT hero by scoring his ever playoff goal.
Second star of the game was Jarkko Ruutu. Ruutu was a force every shift. He finished with an incredible stat line – 1 goal, plus 1, 6 SOG, 5 MS, 4 BS, 7 hits, 40 shifts, 29:33 icetime.
Stat of the night – Sens blocked 46 shots!
Mike Fisher and Nick Foligno played by far and away their best games of the playoffs. Fisher finished the game with 10 hits, had a goal and an assist while playing both ends of the ice with aggression. Foligno skated hard all game and had numerous scoring chances.
I am keeping this one short. Enjoy the win Sens fans. Back on Saturday with a gameday blog.
