Western Conference Quarter Final – Phoenix Coyotes vs Detroit Red Wings – Game #6 Review

Hi Everyone

So to try to stop the unthinkable the “daddy” of the NHL Detroit Redwings tries to take the “foster child”  Phoenix Coyotes to the woodshed in game 6 to stop another time zone shift to have to face Coyotes in the den that is Jobbing.com Arena for a final and deciding game 7.

Things started slow in this one Phoenix’s Korpikoski scored giving the Yotes a 1-0 lead that would carry over into the second.  The Wings would have 3 power play chances 2 of which overlapped causing a 5 on 3 that the Wings failed to convert on, this was the start of the problems for the Wings in this one.

The second period had a lot more scoring, however was all Phoenix’s.  the Coyotes would score 2 power play goals and one even strength goal.  The Wings would only net one by Brad Stuart.  Mathieu Schneider would start at 2:27 on the power play, 27 seconds later would be Brad Stuarts goal, now being 2-1 for Phoenix, later on in the period Vrbata and Wolski would score giving the Yotes a 4-1 lead…wow.  Detroit would give up 4 penalties 2 of which Phoenix was able to convert.

Taylor Pyatt would open up scoring in the 3rd followed by a final goal from Darren Helm, the final score would be 5-2, but a few more interesting things would take place in this period. 9 penalties would be called in the 3rd 7 of which were taken by 3 men during a few scraps as Detroit would show their frustrations.  Justin Abdelkader would ultimately be ejected from the game at 14:14 of the 3rd.

So going back to the desert for one last stand Detroit will try to end it in hostile territories.  Coach Babcock will HAVE TO make some adjustments to shake it up.  I can sum up what Detroit must do to win this one.

Switch it up: as i said earlier if Mike Babcock can switch up the lines it can throw Phoenix of its game and possibly pull out a win if done right.

Stay out of the box!: Detroit cannot take bad penalties they need to stay out of the box for sure.

Jimmy Howard: Howard must be better, I am sure Babcock and Osgood are still praising his performance so far but he needs to be better he needs to be the goalie that only allowed 1 goal in 2 games and he must even do better then that and shutout the Yotes.

Experience: of course the most important of all, Detroit has faced elimination before on the brink but have been able to pull through, but for years has not had to do it on hostile grounds.  Detroit’s front lines and veteran presence can overwhelm the Yotes in this pivotal game 7 where the experience matters most Detroit can be cool calm and collective and take the final game in the desert.  See you all at 7!
