Leafs Nation: Holy Moly, Another Goalie!

Make that four.  Four as in the number of goalies the Leafs’ goaltending guru Francois Allaire has lured into the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect system, with the savvy maneuvering of GM Brian Burke in play of course too.

Per TSN, Brian Burke has added to an already crowded organizational crease by inking Cornell alum and Spruce Grove, Alberta native Ben Scrivens to a one year, entry-level contract.  Scrivens – a four year NCAA player- compiled a 21-9-4 record and impressive .934 sv pct last year at Cornell.

It is expected that Scrivens will report to camp to battle it out with Marlies’ incumbent James Reimer and newly signed Finnish prospect Jussi Rynnas for time at the Ricoh Coliseum on the AHL farm.

Brian Burke continues to impress ever since turning the fortunes of the organization on a cold Sunday back in January.  With the goaltending seemingly under control now and in the future, and with a number of NHL-calibre defensemen in the system already, attention now must turn to uncovering at least two “top-6″ forwards (one being an established #1 centre) and some grit to play in the “bottom-6″ forwards.

Gotta say it:  Burke is “as advertised”.  A creative, risk-taking GM who is not afraid to shake things up and could seemingly sell sand in the desert and ice to an Eskimo.
