Right on Target

The Tigers are somewhere in the air above the Midwest right now, en route to meet their division rival for the fourth time in the past week.

As if Wednesday’s fireworks and Thursday’s matinee shutout of the Twins weren’t convincing enough, this ravenous pride through in a sweep of the none-too-shabby Angels too.

To quote the late, great Harry Caray: Holy Cow!

How you like us now?

What a half of a week it’s been. After a special assist from an ump who miscalled what was later revealed to be a catch by outfielder Denard Span, the Tigers went absolutely nuts.

You can count in how many at-bats Austin Jackson hasn’t gotten a hit on two hands. Scott Sizemore and Brennan Boesch smacked their first big-league homers — the latter a grand slam — in the same half-inning on Friday. Johnny Damon followed that with his first homer as a Tiger — a walk-off — on Saturday.

You had to know Justin Verlander was going to have his annual “How you like me now?!” outing before he even toed the rubber Sunday.

Clearly, the Tigers are in playoff form, if only for the moment. The Twins have played pretty well in their new home at Target Field, and are anxious to get even with a Tiger team who slapped them around just days ago.

So will the Tigs keep flying or come back down to earth? All I can say is Scott Baker can not be too happy about his assignment tomorrow, and the team hasn’t even touched down in the Twin Cities yet.
