From the Boston Bruins this afternoon.
MARCO STURM TO MISS REST OF SEASON WITH TORN ACL AND MCL IN HIS RIGHT KNEE
BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that forward Marco Sturm will miss the remainder of the 2009-10 season after sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee. He sustained the injury during the first period of the Bruins/Flyers game on Saturday, May 1.
Sturm will have surgery within 4-6 weeks from the date of the injury (May 1). His expected recovery time is an estimated six months post-surgery.
An injury to his left knee caused him to miss significant time during the 2008-09 season.
Sturm is a streaky goal scorer. Unfortunately for the team and it’s fans, he has been on a dry spell since tallying a goal and an assist against these Flyers back on March 11th. Since that March 11th two point night, Sturm scored a goal in the final regular season game against the Washington Capitals. The Sabres held him off the board in the opening round.
Expect Shawn Thornton, who was a healthy scratch Saturday, to be back in the lineup on Monday night
