The Red Sox Let Out Major Frustration with a 17-8 Win Over the Angels

Last night was a Boston sports fan’s dream. The Bruins played Game 2 of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs at the Garden. The Celtics were on the road for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. And the Red Sox were hosting the LA Angels. Could Boston pull off the trifecta? Most would have predicted winning 2 out 3 considering the Sox recent dive to the bottom of the standings. Instead they brought some life to Fenway Park beating the Angels 17-8. I was at the Garden watching the Bruins take it to the Flyers but couldn’t help checking out the Sox score on my phone.

Clay Buchholz improved his record to 3-2, while maintaining his stellar 2.97 ERA. He gave up 8 hits and 4 earned runs. Buchholz was hit in the left foot by a line drive in the second inning but stayed in the game. The bats came alive last night which was great to see. Let’s hope they can keep it up. Adrian Beltre and Bill Hall each had their first home run of the year. Kvein Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia also went yard. JD Drew was 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs. Mike Lowell was 4 for 4 with 4 RBIs continuing to make Terry Francona’s decision as to what to do with the batting lineup a mystery. Darnell McDonald continues to connect with the ball as he was 2 for 4 with an RBI. This was the largest amount of runs and hits for the Red Sox since Aug. 2 of last year. Bill Hall was quoted as saying, “They say hitting is contagious.’’ Well, whatever it is they caught, I hope it stays in their system for a while.

I am on my way to Fenway for my 6th game of the season to watch Jon Lester hopefully continue where he left off in Toronto last week. He will be facing Ervin Santana. Thunderstorms are predicted so hopefully they get this one in on time. Let’s go Sox!

On a sad note, Boston’s forever hero, Dave Roberts, who will be 38 end of May, has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Dave Roberts will forever be associated with one of Boston’s greatest sports moments. He stole 2nd base in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees. That enabled the Sox to win the game and move onto their first World Series Championship in 86 years. Roberts said the cancer was detected early and “fortunately, the prognosis is very positive.’’ He felt a lump in his neck before spring training. As the spring went on, he felt soreness in that area and now he has vowed to beat the disease. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dave Roberts.
