Coincidentally, Montreal’s shocking upset over the Penguins in game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals came just hours before the birthdays of both goaltender Jaroslav Halak and rookie phenom PK Subban. Halak is 25 years old today, while PK turns 21.
As a responsible journalist, I wanted to make sure it was in fact their birthday today, so I contacted Murray Wilson, who does the Habs games at CJAD, to confirm that my information was accurate. His response to my question over the phone was “YES!! YES!! YES!!”
Even though pro athletes make a lot of money, they still enjoy receiving birthday gifts, and Coach Jacques Martin did not disappoint them.
For Halak’s birthday, Martin promised to give his goalie one game of his choice where Marc-Andre Bergeron will be taken off of defense.
For PK’s birthday, Martin bought Subban a cheap, overweight hooker with an STD; or as Martin calls it “PK’s best partner since Hamrlik”.
One NHL player sent a short email to the birthday boys, which I thought was nice. See below:

On behalf of Habs fans everywhere – Happy Birthday to Jaro and PK!
