Before Game 6 last night I could barely contain myself. I could only sit down for 2 seconds at a time; I had to get up and pace around the room. I paced back and forth, back and forth just waiting for tip off. ESPN actually had a clock counting down till the start of the game. So, here I am pacing and waiting. I glance at the TV…“What do you mean there’s still an hour and 46 minutes to go? Come on already.”
Then the moment finally arrives and my stomach is churning. Game 6, in Boston; time for the Celtics to take care of business and eliminate Lebron and the Cavs. With the opening jumpball, Celtics gained possession and right away they went to Kevin Garnett. With Shaq guarding him, KG juked, created space and drained the jumper. I was anxious at the start of the game, but when KG drilled that jumper and then the next one, I started to relax a little bit.
Flash forward to the 4thquarter with the Celtics holding on to the lead and 2 minutes left in the game. Celtics had trouble finding a quality shot. I was getting worried again. I was having flash backs of game 1. But with everything on the line, after a bad shot, KG fought for an offensive rebound giving the Celts a fresh clock. Celts threw up another bad shot and there is KG fighting for an offensive board yet again. Celtics were able to kill more time off the clock. KG iced the game with a 6 footer and with the shot, he officially ended another disappointing playoff run for Lebron and company. KG finished with 22 points and was the main reason why they won the game.
After the game, I was talking with my wife, rambling about the sensational night KG had. It was KG this, KG that. Then my wife accused me of something that at first I took offense, but after my initial denial I realized she’s right. I have man love for KG.
Sorry. I didn’t mean to make reading this article awkward, but its time for me to admit it and say it out loud.
I have man love for KG.
How could I not? The guy only came to Boston to play for the 2nd to last place Celtics, changed the whole culture instantly and erased a 22 year championship drought and made the Celtics great again. Damn right I love this guy.
Right about now, you might be asking yourself, do I have the same issue as John? Do I have man love for KG?
If you have one or all of these symptoms, then you may have KG man love and may need counseling.
KG Man Love Symptoms
- Banging your head against the wall and pounding your chest before you have a big job to do
- Randomly posting up people at your work cafeteria
- Caring about KG’s knees more than your own
- Calling yourself “mother bleeper” all the time and again pounding your chest when you say it
- Naming your first born “The Big Ticket”
Now, I’m not the only one that feels this way. Next to Lebron and Kobe, Celtic’s number 5 is the most popular NBA jersey. We all love KG. We love KG’s intensity, competitiveness, leadership, humor, charisma and most of all we love his game. He gives everything he has and expects his teammates to do the same.
Sunday at 3:30PM, Kevin Garnett and the Celtics will face off against the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Finals. The Magic are the hottest team in the NBA and present more match up problems for the Celtics than the Cavaliers. The Magic are favored and they should be, but consider this…the Boston Celtics have not lost a playoff series when Kevin Garnett is starting. So, how could I not have man love for KG.
