So finally it ends Game 5 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals sees the end of the Wings for this season. All in all i see tiredness catching up with the Wings, but overall no one can say the Wings didn’t try. At some points in the season it seemed they would not even make the post season being as low as 13th in the West prior to the Olympics.
Key injuries also put the Wings on hold early on with key players such as Johan Franzen and Justin Williams among others going down at different points of the season as well as a lack of scoring by Zetterberg and even Datsyuk at some points. The Wings would pull through later in the Season being 8-1-1 in the last 10 games of the season and going 16-3-2 after the Olympics.
The Wings would make the playoffs and bounce Phoenix in the 1st round in 7 games but the mighty Sharks would then bounce the Wings in 5 games. Jimmy Howard now has a bright future in the NHL and will take the Wings into next season and beyond.
Many questions are being asked about the Wings future, with the possibility to Niklas Lidstrom’s retirement to changes to the team itself the landscape in Hockey Town as to every team in the NHL is subject to changes eventually. Are changes coming to Detroit or should changes come? Detroit now has to look ahead to next year with the possibility of loosing Niklas Lidstrom, another question is IF Lidstrom does retire who should now be captain? My top 3 would be Johan Franzen, Pavel Datsyuk, or Henrik Zetterberg, Thomas Holmstrom would also be a worth candidate but we shall see how things go.
Any way now that Detroit’s season is over I will still be back with updates and blogging during the summer I hope you have all liked my blogs this season and i hope to be back next year.
