In this afternoons game at the United Center the crowd was more electric then I have ever seen before and for good reason. Their beloved Hawks had a chance to sweep the favored and 1st seed San Jose Sharks and after a heroic effort once again managed to do so.
It started off sketchy as Logan Couture shelved a shot past Antti Niemi high on the glove side to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead at the 11:08 mark of the 1st period. The Blackhawk fans were suddenly a notch lower in the decibal level so to speak.
San Jose jumped ahead 2-0 at 7:35 of the second period on a goal by the most productive Shark this series Patrick Marleau and Hawks fans were quieted to a minimal level that you could here Vince Vaughn’s lady friend and her belches after her 16th beer on the afternoon.
With San Jose looking like they might extend the series to a 5th game “Ladies Man“ Brent Seabrook decided to skip to my lou and blast one by Evgeni Nabokov making it 2-1 in favor of the Sharks at the 13:15 mark of the second period.
Was Chicago done there? Hellll no! “The Rat” Dave Bolland (nickname previously owned by Kenny Linseman, thanks Ken!) buried his 5th goal of the playoffs with juicy apples going to “man basher” Ben Eager and the “toothless wonder” Duncan Keith. Yes, that’s right, poor lil Dunc left a few chiclets laying on the ice today and to make things worse CBC decided to interview him after the big win and Keith sounded like he had a lisp and no tongue. Thank goodness he will make a boatload of loot next year so he can afford some sweet “50 Cent” type gold dentures. Game now tied 2-2 with complete momentum in Chicago’s favor.
So now we are heading into the third and everyone is nervous right? BLAH, I tweeted prior to the game mentioning that the Hawks strongest periods are the third periods and I was looking forward to it. Who proved me right? None other then my boyeeee and “Mr.Clutch” Dustin Byfuglien as he notched his 8th goal in the playoffs on a powerplay and yet another game winner. 3-2 Chitown at the 14:05 mark of the third period.
Ok Ok, so the Hawks are up 1 goal with 5 minutes to go, sound familiar? In game 3 it was an identical situation and the Sharks managed to tie it and send it to Overtime. Not this time brutha’s and sista’s, Kris Versteeg made his twin brother Joe Pavlelski a tad furious as he solidified the Hawks win with an empty netter with 42 ticks on the clock left. Speaking of Joe Pavelski, don’t you love how the Blackhawks are able to shut down the hot scorer’s in the playoffs like Mikael Samuelsson and Pavelski? Really they were invisible during their respective series against the Hawks. PS was Dan Boyle playing?
I’m not trying to rip on the Sharks as they are a very talented team and the games honestly could have gone either way but the Hawks managed to shut down their superstars and therefore..coulda woulda shoulda..they didn’t and the ChicagoBlackhawks are heading to represent the Western Conference and all of the die hard Chicago fans from all these tough years (yes all 5000 of us) in the Stanley Cup finals against either Les Habitants or the Bronx bombers.
Chicago played a better defensive game today.
We have seen the baby Blackhawks give up almost 40 shots per game to these rabid Sharks but today was different, the puck possession was spot on today and the Hawks only allowed 18 shots today. Quite the turn around EH? This is an important stat we need to keep up moving on to the Cup finals.
The Hossa Curse
People who say the Hawks will never win because of Hossa and his previous 2 trips to the cup finals he lost are honestly off their rocker and are obviously smoking a bit to much of the wacky tobacky or perhaps just digging for a reason to attack the Hawks and their followers. Have these people seen Hossa play? Hossa has been unreal, although not scoring at a rapid pace he is doing everything we need from him, killing penalties, creating and back checking. Hell the Hoss-man is 4th in team scoring only 4 pts off a point per game pace. What more you people want from this elite player? He IS the best 2-way player in the game, there you go I said it
I could yap all night on here but I wont, who wants to read all night while we have some celebrating to do and then get back to business when we find out who shizzy we are playing for Lord Stanley?
Anyone excited for game one of the Stanley Cup finals at the Madhouse on Madison? Mhmm I figured so. I bid you adieu my fellow Hawk fans for now and enjoy this bitter sweet sweeping and let’s all get jacked for the Cup finals!
Let’s Go Hawks !!!
