I think I'm torn on the issue. I am not a huge fan of interleague play (there are more negatives than positives) nor am I a fan of the All-Star Game determining home field advantage for the World Series. Who cares if the Phils play the Twins in June? Well I think it is interesting to play "other teams" to the fans but to the players it is just another game. I'd like to refer you to my article on realignment, scheduling suggestions and the like. Essentially it lambastes Bud Selig's committee concept for "rotating" divisional alignment (based on payroll, willingness to compete and record) and suggests alternatives. One idea is that Geography is more important than league boundaries. Why not reshuffle all 30 franchises, group them based on geography and encourage teams to complete with those natural rivals. Dodgers-Angels, Cubs-White Sox, Rangers-Astros, Mets-Yankees, etc. Wouldn't it be more interesting to see Seattle & San Francisco battle it out for a postseason spot than 18 games against Texas? Detroit and Toronto should slug it out with each other not Baltimore or Cleveland!
