I really wish I could say that this team is showing signs of turning the corner, and showing why a lot of pundits picked this team as a surprise dark horse team this year. Unfortunately I can’t.
After splitting a pair against the Toronto Blue Jays in which they were damned lucky to come back in game two of the set, and dropping two of three to the Padres in their first taste of inter league play. It just seems to be the same problems that are haunting this team.
With the exception of a 15 run outburst against the Padres on Friday this team is still unable to hit it’s way out of a wet paper bag. The rotation is giving these guys a chance to win almost every night, however either the bats remain cold or the bullpen starts pouring gasoline on the fire.
Amazingly at 16-28 they are somehow only 8.5 games out of the lead in the division which gives the Mariners time to get the bats going but it has to start now! At least there have been a few positives recently with the offense of the Seattle Mariners.
Ichiro is still Ichiro smacking the ball around at a .352 clip. And the return of Mike Sweeney has been desperately needed. With only 64 AB’s Mike is leading the team now with 5 home runs! Also he is hitting .297, trying to spark some life into the anemic offense. If the Mariners could get a few players batting above the Mendoza line with them then a lot of problems could be solved quickly.
Up next for the M’s is a quick two game home stand against the Detroit Tigers. Then it is off to Anaheim to face the Angels for three games. Point blank Seattle needs to win a few games in a row to get themselves back in the division picture.
Have a good one!
