May the baseball karma Gods strike me down, but its time for a little gloating. The Philies going 0-for-the series, getting shutout three straight games may point out more about the listlessness of the Cheesesteaks, as my colleague Bryan Sargent has aptly pointed out in his piece. But its certainly a well-needed shot in the emotional arm for the Mets, who are like that kid who got picked on in the schoolyard, then learned karate and took out his frustration beating up the bully.
The Mets are still an emotionally fragile team, but one can only hope that combination of luck, stellar play and Phillie listlessness will result in some added confidence for the Amazins.
Jose Reyes has been terrific – his resurgence has lit a powder keg for the Mets offense. This is the Jose we know and love, and if he continues to hit and to be the pest on the basepaths that he has been, it really changes the whole feel of the team.
Angel Pagan has also been sent from heaven to trigger more havoc on the diamond. The strategy of speed and gap hitting spawned by the massive dimensions of Citifield is suddenly working!
Confidence and continuity – these are the traits the Mets must carry into their next series, otherwise this thrashing of Philly will be nothing more than a revenge strikeback.
