It’s not a knock knock joke, folks! It’s one of many new faces in different places in the Yankees lineup.
What to say about the Bombers recently? They’re up! They’re down! Mo blows two saves in a row and then saves two in one day.
Despite the rollercoaster ride this season, they’ve closed within 2.5 games of the Rays and have stayed a game ahead of the Jays.
Old Man Pettitte (he’s not really that old!) is 7-1, while AJ Burnett is 6-2. I didn’t mistype that! AJ has a better record than CC, who is 4-3! Phil Hughes is 6-1 and has shown some mean stuff.
Meanwhile, Javi Vazquez continues to flirt with Scranton at 3-5. He goes to the mound in the series opener with the Orioles tonight.
Offensively, Robinson Cano is having a ridiculous year, batting .363! Watch out Joe Morgan. You won’t be able to brag that you were the best second baseman in the history of the world for too much longer!
And finally, there’s Kevin Russo. I’m not picking on the newest Yankees outfielder but just expressing my reaction to the first time I saw his name in the lineup. Listed as an infielder on the Yankees roster, Russo has filled in admirably while a plague of injuries struck the team, including Curtis Granderson.
It hasn’t always been pretty, although sometimes it has been complete brilliance, but the way the Yankees are playing has put them right where they want to be heading into June!
