The Alouettes did not make any significant changes during the off-season. The biggest loss from their roster was Bryan Chiu. The 13 year veteran announced his retirement on the first day of training camp. Chiu has the record for most games played in an Alouettes uniform with 218 career games. Paul Lambert is pretty much a lock to replace him at the Center position.
Anthony Calvillo and Ben Cahoon are both back for their 13th season with the Alouettes. A lot of experts thought that both of these players would retire after winning the Grey Cup last season, but that is not the case. It appears that when the time comes, Calvillo and Cahoon will call it quits at the same time.
Marc Trestman and Jim Popp were both rumoured to be headed to the NFL during the off-season, but good news for the Alouettes fans is that they will both be back this season. Under Trestman, the Alouettes have made it to the Grey Cup twice and have a 26-10 regular season record.
The only spot that seems up for grabs is the Kick Returner as Larry Brown tries his luck with the New York Jets in the NFL.The battle will be between Chad Owens, Tim Maypray and Brandon Whitaker. The Coach’s decision will not be an easy one as all 3 players had great returns during Saturday’s pre-season game against the Argos.
A new addition for the Als this season will be that ProSportsBlogging will be covering the team, and live blogs during most of their games.
Will the Als repeat as Grey Cup champs? They certainly have the players, and the coaching staff to head back to the Grey Cup. If I was a betting man, I would definitely bet that the Als give their fans another exciting regular season and playoff run.
