Late last night, a rumor circulating on twitter had Sergei Gonchar’s negotiating rights being dealt to the San Jose Sharks. After speaking with someone close to the situation, I can confirm with 100% certainty that this is not true. The problem with twitter is that so many people start “retweeting” rumors that they spiral out of control, and rumors start to take on a life of their own.
This is not the first case of trades being reported on twitter that turned out to be untrue; it was only a few days ago that Jason Spezza was reportedly dealt to Columbus in exchange for Brassard, Huselius and a 1st round pick. Keep in mind that Gonchar could be dealt to another team by the end of the week, but he does have a no trade clause that he can still use.
