It’s Taylor! The Oilers’ new kid in the Hall

Edmonton OIlers fans celebrate outside of The Staples Centre, following the selection of Taylor Hall with the first overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The mystery is over – Taylor Hall is coming to E-town Oilers Nation!

GM Steve Tambellini thanked LA for hosting the draft, then wasted little time in announcing Hall’s name as the first overall selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The other dominant forward in the first overall selection equation, Tyler Seguin, as predicted, went to Boston. Without question, both will eventually leave their respective marks on the league, a regular-season rivalry already forged.

After a few family hugs and kisses, the former Windsor Spitfire took to the stage, slipped on the copper and blue silks, posed for a few photographs with Oiler brass, and quietly left the stage, as loud chants of “Let’s Go Oilers, Let’s Go!” echoed throughout The Staples Centre.

It was an historic day in this franchise’s illustrious history today, and created a buzz not seen since the glory years.

And rightfully so. Hall, whose signature carve from the left wing, is drawing comparisons with Oiler great, Glenny Anderson, will undoubtedly fill the net as an Edmonton Oiler. His trademark – no fear!

Hall will be introduced to Edmonton media and fans sometime in the next few days. And contrary to the garbage chatter about players not wanting to come to Edmonton….Hall can’t wait to showcase his talents down at The Drug Store.

Eberle, Svensson, Omark, Plante and now Hall…the outlook, at least on paper, looks extremely optimistic.

Time will tell whether the new kids in the Hall will gel under HC Tom Renney, the tutelage of which I’ve yet to be sold on.

Nonetheless, after dismal performances following the club’s 06 Cup run, the Oilers look to be stocking the shelves with talent once again.

Oilers Nation is celebrating in LA right now,as evidenced by the above photo,  and surely, the streets near E-town’s Wayne Gretzky Drive will be rockin tonight as well.

In the meantime Oiler fans, keep your chins up and your sticks down.
