Flyers obtain Nabokov rights from San Jose

It’s no secret the Philadelphia Flyers are in the market for a goaltender. The Flyers uncertain cap situation is one hurdle. Another is the current group of UFA goaltenders hitting the market on July 1st.  After the 2010 NHL Draft had concluded in Los Angeles the Flyers future goaltending picture may have perhaps gotten a little clearer.

Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com is reporting the Flyers have come to a verbal agreement to acquire the rights to San Jose goaltender Evgeni Nabokov for a conditional 7th round pick. The condition depends on if the Flyers and Nabokov can come to a contract agreement before July 1st when unrestricted free agency opens.

Nabokov will be 35 by the time the 2010-11 season get under-way. Which would allow the Flyers to sign Nabokov under a 35-and-older contract.  Meaning, they will be able to put into the contract production incentives that will not count against the salary cap.
