The President Speaks!

“Give me one week” These words turned out to be Richard Nixon’s nightmare in 1960 when Eisenhower used it regarding what Nixon had done as Vice President during his term.

That was pretty much the message that Calgary Flames president Ken King gave to fans at his annual meet and greet/state of the union address. He repeatedly told fans that the Flames will be active and they will be active soon. Here are some of the highlights of what Mr. King said.

The Flames will spend to the cap, and also pointed out that teams are allowed to be 10% over the cap before the season starts. Which would lead one to believe the Flames plan on being over the cap for a period in time.

Ian White will be re-signed by the team. Thank God.

Don’t read too much into Kotalik on waivers. Really?

There were a handful of Alex Tanguay references. Stuff like he would make Jarome a better player etc. etc. I assumed that boat had sailed already.

Finally the Flames will have a new building in a few years. Again not exactly a shock. We all knew this was coming.

I’ll give Ken King credit for one thing. He is very accessible to the fans and does not have to put on events like this but he does even in a rough period of time.

So what do you think? I’m going to take him at his word and I’ll give the team a little less than a week to make something happen to improve this team. I’m also going to assume that the Flames will be making an offer to Tanguay. I also think that the Flames are going to take a run at a big trade or high priced free agent, with the comment about being allowed to be 10% over the cap.

Have a good one!
