Ex-Penguins defenseman signed with the Ottawa Senators shortly after free agency started. Ottawa signed a 3-year deal for $5.5 million plus a no trade clause.
For Ottawa fans: It’s probably a good thing for 2010-2011. If Gonchar retires before his contract is up, Sens fans will be upset.
For Pittsburgh fans: Gonchar is a liability on defense and it negates his offensive production. He’s better off on an Eastern Conference team so Crosby and Malkin can torch him.
