Ex-Devils defenseman, Paul Martin, has signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5 year, $25M deal. That makes a $5M cap hit.
Martin is a 6′1 20 pound left-handed defensive defenseman that was forced to pass up a chance to play for team USA at this year’s Olympics. He broke his arm against the Penguins on October 27, 2009 and only played in 22 games last season. Martin notched 2 goals and 9 assists and was a +10 last season
Paul Martin joins Zbynek Michalek as the Penguins new defensive shutdown pair. They combine for $9M in salary cap.
Ray Shero and the Penguins now have about $2M in salary cap space and could get a winger.
