UPDATE: Guess Who’s Back, Maybe

Posted By Gabriel Rodriguez On Jul 1 2010 @ 8:27 pm In San Antonio Spurs | No Comments

Richard Jefferson may not be leaving San Antonio after all.  Yesterday Richard Jefferson opted out of his contract, became an unrestricted free agent, and freed up about $15 million in cap-space for the Spurs…or so we thought.

He didn’t even get out of the parking lot of the AT& T Center before reports started surfacing that he might be coming right back.

According to Jeff McDonald at mysanantonio.com [1], Jefferson opted out in order to secure a long-term deal with the Spurs.  He is reportedly looking for a three to five year-deal worth between $9M and $10M per season.

His first season with the Spurs did not go as well as he or anyone else would have liked, but evidently he has been in the gym all summer.  Reports are he has been working with Coach Pop personally.

I would welcome Jefferson back if they can make it work, on the court and with the money.  Let’s hope Pop can find a way to fit Jefferson into his offense as well as find a way to use RJ’s dynamic talents, and do it all with a deal that isn’t as much of a cap hit.
