Manny Malhotra performed well in the playoffs last year and was a bargain at $700,000. But three years and $7.5 million was too rich a contract for the Sharks, so he signed with the Canucks.
It looks like Logan Couture is now ready to have a larger role at center behind Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski. That is if he stays healthy, which he had a hard time doing in Junior with the Ottawa 67s.
With Torrey Mitchell and Scott Nichol fighting for the fourth line center role, Malhotra was deemed expendable. His faceoff winning skills will be missed.
The question still remains if the Sharks will go with young goalies lead by Thomas Greiss, or if they will dip into Free Agency.
