Game Report – Bombers 49 Ti-Cats 29

It was a game of contrasts. Some parts and plays looked like midseason form and others looked like it was still preseason. Hamilton’s special teams came to play, but maybe they should have made sure the offense was ready too. Hamilton had a net of -2 yards for the first half. After a blocked punt in the final minute of the opening half the Bombers lead 24-9 at the half time break.
Hamilton never took advantage of a stiff southerly wind as they scored a total of 2 fieldgoals to go with the game opening kickoff return and two wind aided singles. Their only TD drive came against the wind and it was late in the fourth quarter with the game almost seemingly out of reach.
The Bombers meanwhile scored both with the wind and also going against the wind. Buck Pierce and Steven Jyles both scored running TDs while Terrance Edwards added two TD receptions on 5 catches for 191 yards. Only a 4th quarter missed fieldgoal TD return kept Hamilton mathematically in the game. The Bomber Defense had 6 sacks, holding the running game to final drive backup quarterback running yards. The Bombers also won the turnover battle 4-2 as both teams lost two fumbles while the Bombers had an interception and a 3rd down stop. Hamilton was held to a total of 206 yards while the Bombers managed 472 yards.
It wasn’t pretty but it was thorough. The Bombers have made a statement early in the 2010 season. They won’t play perfectly but they will fight through the adversity and after last season that’s more than enough for a fan based that has suffered through a 20 year championship drought. The Blue Bombers have taken first place in the East and that’s good enough. For now.
