Who can provide the sparklers and who is the firework dud?

You are probably looking for one more good pitcher for your roster. Someone who can give you those solid numbers and make you look good. Unless you drafted perfectly and have not been affected by injuries or by someone who is having a disappointing year. Well I have a great suggestion on who to pick up to give you that pop you need and who to consider a dud that will never provide you with any firepower.
Add: Minnesota Twins SP Carl Pavano (59% owned)- Pavano is solid all-around. He is 9-6 with a 3.30 ERA, 63 strikeouts and only 17 walks witha WHIP of 1.05. That’s not a bad scorecard there. But look closer at his last three starts. his last start he went 6.1 innings and gave up two earned runs. Not amazing, but solid. Look back at the two starts before that, though. Back-to-back complete games where he gave up a combined one earned run and seven hits over the two starts and only walked batter to boot. Also take note that Target Field is not a great hitter’s park, which is good for Twins pitching, but not for Twins hitting, which is why we are seeing a dip in someone like Joe Mauer’s power numbers. IF you need any kind of pitching help, give Pavano a chance. He may not be the flashiest name on the free agent market but he is a legitimate SP for your roster.
Drop: New York Yankees SP A.J. Burnett (71% owned)- I know someone out there just read this and gasped out loud at the thought of dropping any Yankee player. But Burnett is having serious control issues and has been struggling the better part of this year. He is 6-7 with an ERA of 4.90 and while Burnett can be a good source for strikeouts, he is also racking up a lot of walks lately. He has issued 16 walks in his last five starts. That’s not horrendous, but Stephen Strasburg, my new favorite player to watch, has issued only 10 walks in his first six major league starts. I know Burnett had a good outing his last game going 6.2 and giving up no earned runs and striking out six, but his inconsistency worries me and it should worry you too. If you don’t want to drop him, I suggest proposing a trade for a not as sexy pitcher who will give you consistently better numbers or an infielder for your bench since those are hard to find this time of the season. Just think about if Burnett is really the M-80 firework he appears to be or if he is a cheap firework that just isn’t as explosive as you had hoped.
