The Excitement of Free Agency
Posted By Bennett Snyder On Jul 6 2010 @ 9:43 pm In NBA | No Comments
All NBA fans have been waiting for the 2010 summer since 2008. There has never been a free agent class like this in basketball, and in any sport for that matter. Teams have been trading away players like they have the plague just to clear up a little more cap space, in hopes to land one of the superstars. The great thing about free agency is dreaming of the scenarios that could happen, before the actual, less dramatic realization sets in when the players sign. Imagine if the Bulls were able to get LeBron, Bosh, and Wade. Wow. With those three along with Noah and Rose, it would dominate the NBA for years, and might go down as the best starting five of all time. Will it happen? Probably not, but its incredible to think about. Imagine if LeBron and Bosh or Wade went to New Jersey. They could go from contending for the worst record of all time in 2009, to contending for the title in 2010. Basketball is the one sport where this could happen, going from worst to first with the addition of only two guys. Now imagine if your favorite team was to land LeBron and another superstar. Would you not go out and buy season tickets instantly? That is how much this 2010 free agency class means. It can and will turn around the fortunes of many different franchises. With Amar’e already signing with the Knicks it does help them become less laughable, but unless they land Wade or LeBron this long waiting for Knicks fans will be all for naught. That being said, one of these teams competing for these superstars will be left out in the cold and be in the basement once again. The only team that wouldn’t become an easy W on the schedule would be Chicago as they still have Rose and Noah along with Deng. However, Cleveland becomes awful without LeBron, while the Heat and Nets compete for worst record if they don’t keep/get a superstar. All the chips are on the table, and the three players holding the future of a franchise have still yet to make a decision. The anticipation of the big day is sensational, and while we have the rest of the summer to break down the teams when they finally make their decision, for now lets keep dreaming and imagining what could be.
