Habs, Lapierre come to terms on a new contract

RDS reported this morning that the Montreal Canadiens and Maxim Lapierre have agreed to terms on a 1 year contract extension. Lapierre will earn $900,000 in 2010-11, a modest raise from his $800,000 salary last season. I for one am that his salary went up, rather than “take a dive”! The 25-year old center/right wing had a poor regular season in 2009, but he redeemed himself with some solid play in the playoffs. The two parties tried to hammer out a multi-year contract extension, but couldn’t agree on Lapierre’s value, so they settled on a short term solution.

This signing leaves Carey Price as the only Montreal Canadien without a contract. According to CapGeek.com, this signing leaves the Habs with $4.7 million in cap space, to sign Price and perhaps add 1 more forward to the roster.
