Nets Hire New GM King -WHY?

Rod Thorn is out and Billy King is in, as the new Nets general manager. Mikhail Prokhorov made the announcement Wednesday, July 14th, through a press release. Mark this day down in Nets history! The day the Nets turned around their franchise when they took the LeBron James of GM’s in Billy King. In all seriousness, what is Prokhorov thinking? He narrowed down the field between Danny Ferry and Billy King, before selecting King as his choice. The only competition I would expect King and Ferry to be the final two in, is which person would be fired quicker.
Danny Ferry had LeBron, the ultimate superstar, and couldn’t find the right pieces for him. He wouldn’t include J.J. Hickson in a trade that would have landed Amar’e, instead kept Hickson and went for option number two in Jamison. How did that work out? LeBron is gone, and Ferry/Gilbert are the people to blame. I would never hire Danny Ferry for a GM or President job ever again.
This brings us to somebody else I would never hire, Mr. Billy King. Being a lifelong Sixers fan, I know what Billy King is capable of. Capable of pure destruction. The Sixers were in the NBA Finals back in 2001. Billy King took over in 2003. Look at what happened. They are picking in the lottery every year, switching coaches every year, and it all started back with King being in charge and Larry Brown leaving. It’s not like a superstar left, like what Cleveland is about to experience, it was just constant poor drafting, poor free agent signing, and poor trades. He was in charge from 2003 to2007 until the whole city couldn’t take him anymore, and the team finally wised up by getting rid of him. Thaddeus Young might have been his only good draft pick, and that was the last one he made.
So far, the Nets missed out on every available big time free agent, and now have hired a GM with the track record of being very mediocre. Unless Derrick Favors turns out to be a stud, the Nets franchise isn’t looking any better. Of course, there are some optimistic fans that think adding Travis Outlaw, back-up center Johan Petro, and career back-up point guard Jordan Farmar will help right this sinking ship. I trust what I know and have seen, and that the master of disaster Billy King will keep this Nets franchise in the lottery, mess up their lottery picks, until he is eventually fired in three or four years. Who knows though, maybe those optimistic fans are right and not me.
