Well that was a mess if you are a Calgary Stampeders fan. The Stampeders managed to overcome some insanely stupid penalties and poor field position in the first half with a couple timely goal line stands to keep the team in it. Amazingly the Stamps defense held all first half and somehow the Toronto Argonauts only had a 13-10 lead at the half.
Roll on to the third quarter and Henry Burris showed his elite side. he moved the offense down the field almost at will and at the end of three quarters Calgary held a 24-15 lead. In the 4th quarter Burris hucked up a few bad passes and the Stamps running game became non existent which led to the Argos taking the lead with 2 minutes to go. The Stampeders tried late game come back but couldn’t generate anything and dropped the game 27-24 to fall to 2-1 while the Argonauts climbed to 2-1 in the East.
Some lowlights for the Stampeders included Joffrey Reynolds amazingly brilliant 15 yard penalty for rough play when he decided to walk over an Argos players chest to get back to the huddle. Joffrey is not that kind of player and I almost spit my beverage out when I saw it happen. Also Henry Burris had a tough night only going 20-40 for 207 yards and 3 TD’s but the 4 INT’s marred his performance. First time he had thrown four picks in a game since he was a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Speaking of those Roughriders. Saskatchewan travels to Calgary next Saturday night for a clash of top teams in the West. McMahon Stadium will be rocking and there will be green jerseys and watermelons in the stands (If you are American just ask and I will explain LOL) which should make for a great atmosphere!
Have a good one!
