Locked and Loaded’

I guess since this is my inaugural post on this website, I probably do one of those cliché this-is-who-I-am intro paragraphs that everyone absolutely loves to read with a passion. I was born and raised around the sport of hockey, played it with a passion and still do whenever I have time. Most of the other bloggers on this website would probably consider me a young buck, seeing as I’m only 19. I’m a full-time student from September to May, which ironically means that I have a *lot* of spare time on my hands. Luckily, the NHL season begins and ends around the same time as my studies. I probably watch over 20 games and love to tell it like it is when it comes to blogging.
Growing up, the priorities in my household were Habs>Religion>School. I idolized Saku Koivu and once I witnessed them winning the cup I wanted to play for that team more than anything else. But then came along the series of coaches after ’97 who all struggled to keep a winning percentage of over .500 during their time as head coach of the habs. The ridiculously moronic Bob Gainey then became GM and promptly traded all the iconic players of the team (i.e Koivu,Kovalev etc.) and dismantled it piece by piece. If it weren’t for Halak, they wouldn’t even have made it past the first round last year. That conference final was a fluke and every half-witted habs fan out there knows it.
My interest for the Caps grew over the course of the last season. I was honestly pissed when the Habs eliminated them, not only because that meant I had instantly lost any chances of winning my bracket pool but also because the habs didn’t deserve to be there. If the Caps could find themselves a good goaltender (no offense to Varlamov, it’s clear he’s got potential but the Caps won’t have such a powerful roster forever), they could go deep in the Playoffs. I can’t remember seeing an offense as loaded as Ovechkin-Semin-Backstrom-Green in the past 10 years. The Caps do have some cap space to play with so it will be interesting to see if they choose to go after Nabokov or Turco (who are still FA’s if I did my research right). I think either of those two would be good enough to enable this team to push deep into the post-season. Only time will tell.
Hopefully this season will be a good one.
